Summary

Emily Leverton is a governess who isn’t supposed to be a governess.  Emily has a secret that can’t be revealed, or it will ruin everything that she has worked for. She just wants to live a simple life until she blows a kiss at the wrong person.

Zach Denholm is what you call “new money,” he doesn’t quite fit into the upper echelon of London society, but the matchmaking mommas don’t care about that. Zach, like Emily, also belongs to a world he was not raised to be a part of. His work with the police thankfully keeps him out of the ballrooms of the ton, except for the time when a mysterious woman blows a kiss at him from across the room.

These are the main characters in Lindsay Lovise’s new historical romance, Never Blow a Kiss. The book is a part of a new Historical Romance series from Lovise called The Secret Society of Governess Spies and her debut novel. She will also be releasing a paranormal romance series later this year.

Review

I have always been a sucker for historical romances, especially regency romances. This book checked all the boxes for me. Ballroom scenes – check, ton intrigue – check, clandestine meetings – check.

The only thing I wasn’t so happy with was the story’s pace. The pace starts slow, but about two-thirds of the way through the book, it picks up so fast that it seems rushed. It almost feels like Lovise knew that the story was dragging but then sped it up too much to wrap up loose ends of the story.

I also felt like the story didn’t have a very satisfying conclusion, which could be because the ending felt rushed, leading to this book only getting 4 stars in this review. The book was a terrific Regency romance, and I love a happy ending.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves historical romances and mysteries too.
